Although the world we live in currently is a pretty dangerous and devastating wilderness, it is a place where God is, where Christ has been, and where the Spirit continues to accompany us with comfort and guidance.

We find ourselves in the wilderness, Lord Jesus,
and we are aware of others in this same wilderness.
You meet us there and we know your love and comfort.

We find ourselves, Lord Jesus, in the wilderness caused by our loneliness,
and we are aware of others who are struggle to find friendship and support.
You meet us in the wilderness and your love comforts us.
Show your love to the others with us in this wilderness,
and show us ways we can care for them when they are near.

We find ourselves, Lord Jesus, in the wilderness caused by extreme weather,
and we are aware of others overwhelmed by storm,
particularly those in the Caribbean and the Florida.
You meet us in the wilderness and your love supports us.
Show your love to those who are most effected,
and the emergency, government and charity personnel on the scene.
Show us ways to care even from this distance.

We find ourselves, Lord Jesus, in the wilderness of natural disaster,
and we are aware of others devastated by earthquake, fire and flood,
particularly those in Mexico, California and Italy.
You meet us in the wilderness and we know your love holds us.
Show your love to people in these places and circumstances.
Show us ways to care so they don’t feel isolated.

We find ourselves, Lord Jesus, in the wilderness of a broken world,
And we are aware of others whose lives and families
are destroyed by violence and war.
You meet us in the wilderness and we know your love restores us.
Show your love to people in all situations of inhumanity and cruelty.
Show us ways to care so that they can experience peace in their living.

We find ourselves, Lord Jesus, in the wilderness of illness and anxiety,
and we are aware of others who likewise distressed.
You meet us there and we know your loveheals us.
Show your love to all who are ill and anxious.
Show us ways to care particularly for these people known to us.

In every wilderness
you, Lord Jesus, show the presence of God
who makes the waters break forth and the desert blossom.
Transform us, so that we can transform the world for you

Amen
